New Software Change Process Timeline

The migration process to new software varies by organization. Some complete the process in as little as 90 days. Others require up to 12 months. Technical due diligence and procurement of the replacement software can be accomplished relatively quickly, but application integration, deployment and internal testing can require significant time.

In order to allow enough time for a successful migration, establish a trigger date and work backwards accounting for all of the migration activities. A trigger date may be your McAfee maintenance renewal date or itmay be the End-of-Life date of July 14, 2014. In most cases, it is beneficial to engage in the process sooner versus later in order save on software costs and avoid unsupported software in your data center.
