Company News: PKWARE® Out and About at Industry Conferences During the summer, PKWARE will exhibit at industry events, including the DTIC/DLA/DTRA Technology Expo, FAA Cyber Security Awareness Day in Oklahoma City, and SHARE in Denver.
DTIC/DLA/DTRA Technology Expo, July 16 – Fort Belvoir, VA
At the only Technology Expo held at the McNamara Headquarters Complex, PKWARE will meet with personnel from the Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC), Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), and other key Department of Defense employees.
Attendees are encouraged to stop by the PKWARE booth to discuss how SecureZIP®, our FIPS 140-2 compliant, cross-platform data compression and encryption software, can meet data protection security requirements.
FAA Cyber Security Awareness Day, August 6 – Oklahoma City, OK
This event is part of the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Cyber Security Awareness Training, consisting of breakout sessions and vendor exhibits at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center in Oklahoma City.
With the largest concentration of Department of Transportation (DOT) employees outside of the Washington DC area, the PKWARE booth will showcase SecureZIP solutions with a focus on SecureZIP for Windows® desktop, which the FAA is deploying on 50,000 desktops.
SHARE, August 23-28 – Denver, CO
The SHARE conference is five days of in-depth, technical education, giving attendees the opportunity to connect face-to-face with leading professionals and colleagues. In addition, the SHARE Technology Exchange Expo, August 24-26, provides the ideal forum to discover the latest trends and business solutions in the enterprise technology community.
Attendees that visit the PKWARE booth will learn about SecureZIP for z/OS®. In addition, we invite you to attend our SHARE speaking session “So, You Think You’re Exploiting IBM Hardware Crypto?” on Thursday, August 27, 3:00-4:00pm in Room 702 at the Colorado Convention Center.

Topics & Trends: Traditional (Standard) Encryption vs. AES Encryption on z/OS®At first blush, would you think that 128-bit encryption consumes more CPU cycles and processing time than 96-bit encryption? What about the compatibility of hardware crypto used on IBM® System z® mainframes with other software crypto?
With one solution, SecureZIP®, you get passphrase AES 128-bit encryption that’s 70% faster in elapsed time and 83% faster in CPU time, in comparison to traditional ZIP passphrase 96-bit encryption. Also, a file compressed and encrypted by SecureZIP can be exchanged on z/OS, i5/OS®, UNIX®, Linux®, Windows® Server and Windows desktop, with z/OS hardware crypto interoperating with software crypto.
