ZIP compression from the creator of the .ZIP file format

PKWARE, the original developer of the ZIP compression format, has made ZIP specifications freely available to the public as a standard for compressed data storage. This has made .ZIP one of the most widely used file formats in the world.

Error reporting for both attended and unattended operations

Windows: PKZIP reports errors either to the standard Windows® Event Log, or through SNMP (Simplified Network Message Protocol) integration with leading data center management applications.

UNIX: PKZIP reports errors either to the standard Syslog, or through SNMP (Simplified Network Message Protocol) integration with leading data center management applications.

Strong passphrase-based AES and 3DES data file protection (Windows only)

PKZIP for Server supports AES or 3DES encryption using passphrases to protect valuable information. Files encrypted with PKZIP may be decrypted and extracted on major enterprise computing platforms using PKZIP, SecureZIP®, or the free ZIP Reader for Windows.

Self-extracting files for end-users and other platforms

ZIP archives can be formatted as self-extracting files for Windows end-users or for UNIX®/Linux® operating systems, so that compressed data can be easily unzipped in one easy step. (Licensed for internal use only)

PKZIP Server

ZIP Server Files

PKZIP® is the industry-leading compression utility that aggregates files while greatly reducing transmission times and required storage space. PKZIP for server also helps process automation tasks more easily and efficiently.

Features and Benefits

  • Conserve storage space and reduce file transfer time
  • Improve processing efficiencies with Application Integration
  • Automatically distribute files from server to desktop
  • Distribute compressed files to end-users via email
  • Report errors via standard reporting mechanisms
  • Protect files with strong passphrase-based encryption (available on Windows server only)
  • Operates on all major computing platforms, allowing seamless data transfer between operating systems, including z/OS®, IBM i, UNIX®/Linux® server, and Windows® server and desktop

Conserve storage space and reduce file transfer time: PKZIP allows you to zip server files, reducing bandwidth consumption and file size by as much as 95%. This decreases DASD costs, conserves transmission bandwidth, and minimizes processing times to meet project windows.

Exchange data across desktops, servers, midrange, and mainframe systems: PKZIP is available on all major platforms and supports data exchange between Windows desktops, UNIX/Linux and Windows servers, IBM i midrange, z/OS and mainframe operating systems. PKZIP converts data to the appropriate format based on the type of system it is being transferred to. PKZIP will also decrypt ZIP files encrypted with PKI or passphrases.

PKWARE is the only single-source vendor of ZIP compression products across all major enterprise operating systems.

Automatically distribute files from server to desktop:  By creating self-extracting files, compressed archives sent from servers are automatically decompressed onto desktops. This process is simple for desktop users, requiring just a few clicks, allowing for quick and easy transfer of files to desktop systems. Please note that PKSFX® functionality is licensed for internal use only.

Report errors via standard reporting mechanisms: PKZIP reports errors and events through popular enterprise management tools like HP Openview®, Tivoli®, and Unicenter®. By supporting SYSLOG and SNMP, PKZIP reduces administrative costs by leveraging investments in management reporting tools.

Distribute files to end-users via email: Distribution of compressed files to end-users simply requires adding a switch and the destination email address for the recipient(s). Using an available SMTP server, PKZIP’s email integration saves processing time and development effort for file distribution to end-users inside or outside an organization.

Protect files with strong passphrase-based encryption: On the Windows server platform, PKZIP supports AES or 3DES encryption using passphrases to protect valuable information. Files encrypted with PKZIP may be decrypted and extracted on all major enterprise computing platforms using PKZIP, SecureZIP®, or the free ZIP Reader available for Windows.

Improve processing efficiencies with application integration: With application integration, data can be streamed directly into and out of applications. Many other products require the zip file to be extracted into a data file before it can be read by an application. Application integration eliminates this step, improving operational efficiency by reducing the number of steps needed to process data.

Simply drag and drop files into the ZIP container to save valuable storage space.
