Our client is one of the oldest institutions of higher education in the United States, providing both high-quality undergraduate and graduate programs in the arts, sciences, and professional fields. The university is home to nearly 5,000 full-time faculty members, and over 30,000 undergraduate and graduate students. With such a large campus population, the university wanted a way for its students and faculty to protect their data, some of which contains sensitive personal and/or academic information.

When the university’s IT services department initially contacted PKWARE, they were looking at various data security options. In addition to securing data exchanges amongst faculty, they wanted to also extend that same security and privacy to their students.

SecureZIP was a natural choice for the university. They had a tight timeline, wanting to implement the new software by the beginning of the upcoming semester. SecureZIP could be implemented within days rather than several weeks or months with other providers.

In addition, the university wanted an easy way for incoming students, bringing their own PCs and laptops, to gain access to SecureZIP. Faculty immediately received copies of the SecureZIP software. A secure portal was also created, which will be maintained by university IT services—this will allow downloads of SecureZIP to be distributed to students on an as-needed basis.

Finally, the university was impressed with SecureZIP’s ability to integrate seamlessly with Microsoft Outlook® to secure email exchanges, allowing for secure data exchange throughout the university when needed.
