Our client, a program office within the Department of Defense (DoD) Health System, provides decision support information to those managing the delivery of healthcare. They are responsible for making multi-level healthcare management information available to the necessary parties. They receive, validate, edit, process, aggregate, and integrate all data resulting from the healthcare of military members, including active duty members, retirees, and their families.

When the organization contacated PKWARE, they were faced with needing to quickly implement a solution that would easily fit within their existing infrastructure, while meeting their data processing needs. Other areas within the organization were already using PKZIP for data compression, so it made sense to continue to expand the use of a single product throughout the organization.

Using PKZIP, files can be zipped for transfer through the applications, and remain in their zipped format as they go through the inspection process before making their way to proxy server locations. Inspected, zipped files are forwarded from the proxy servers where the data can then be unzipped and processed. By using an automated process, the organization is now saving considerable overhead in network bandwidth and is also reducing the man-hours required to transmit the files.

After data is processed, it can be sent easily to a Military Data Repository (MDR). Using the defacto .zip standard for compression ensures that the data can be seamlessly transferred across multiple computing platforms within the organization.
