Company Background
Our client is a large Federal Government agency providing reliable and cost-effective Information Technology (IT) solutions to achieve effective mission performance delivery for its extended agencies.
Challenges and Requirements
The agency transfers data from a z/OS mainframe to tape and then physically sends the tape to the IRS and other federal agencies. When a tape was lost in transit, the agency knew they needed a security solution that was easy to use and quick to deploy. The agency had to comply with the OMB Mandate 06-16, which required that sensitive data being transferred to removable media be protected via encryption. The agency required AES 256-bit encryption, the strongest form of encryption available, to secure government data. The Solution - SecureZIP
The agency researched several security options, but in the end, they felt PKWARE offered the strongest solution. SecureZIP could be deployed easily, fit seamlessly into existing processes, and it met the AES 256-bit encryption requirement. The agency purchased SecureZIP for z/OS in order to encrypt data before being transferred to tape. They were able to apply the solution with minimal disruption to their current processes and ensure the highest level of security for customer private data, while still fulfilling OMB Mandate 06-16 requirements. |
