Customer Success Story: PCI DSS Compliance Prompts Deployment of Multi-platform, Easy-to-Use Data Security Solution

Our client is one of the world’s largest companies for outsourced payment services, offering a broad range of issuer- and acquirer-processing technologies that support consumer-finance, credit, debit, healthcare, loyalty, and prepaid services for financial institutions and retail companies in the Americas, EMEA, and Asia-Pacific regions.

Challenges and Requirements The company was required to comply with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), which mandates all credit cardholder data be protected as it is transmitted, processed, and/or stored. Enforced by MasterCard, VISA, and American Express, in response to the overwhelming occurrences of data theft, PCI DSS requires any company handling credit card data to comply or face monetary penalties.

Our client was being audited by several partners and, throughout this process, it became apparent that they needed to address the issue of data security. The company was transmitting credit card information that originated on their Windows® server throughout the company via email attachments, as well as burning data to CD for backup storage. Not wanting to risk non-compliance, they began searching for a data security solution that would enable encryption and be easy to deploy and use.

The Solution – SecureZIP® Server for Windows and SecureZIP for Windows Desktop Although the company considered PGP®, they chose SecureZIP because it met all of their requirements and provided a more robust solution. Both SecureZIP server for Windows and SecureZIP for Windows desktop were deployed in less than one week.

SecureZIP server for Windows’ seamless integration with a PKI environment was also an added benefit, because our client wanted to use their Windows servers to produce X.509 digital certificates and an active directory to centrally store the certificates, so they could easily be accessed by users via Microsoft Outlook®.

SecureZIP for Windows desktop is simple to use, allowing for faster employee adoption. It also offers the Policy Manager feature, ensuring corporate security policies are adhered to by all users. The company recognized SecureZIP for Windows desktop would help them enforce their new encryption policy and limit employee resistance to the solution.
