Secure, Automate, and Simplify Data Protection

PK Protect provides the control businesses need to address complex data security challenges. With nearly 40 years of expertise in data security, PKWARE helps organizations discover and protect sensitive data across the enterprise—whether on endpoints, servers, SharePoint, OneDrive, the cloud, hybrid cloud, databases, data lakes, and mainframes. Through powerful automation and policy-driven controls, PK Protect enables enterprises to mitigate risk, maintain compliance, and securely use and share data without disrupting business operations.

The Problem Distributed Data Creates

Data grows fastest in the places least designed to govern it. Endpoints, collaboration platforms, cloud storage, data lakes and mainframes each hold sensitive information under different controls, and sharing between them is what the business runs on.

That leaves three obligations pulling against each other: mitigating risk, maintaining compliance and enforcing retention, while data keeps moving because stopping it would stop the work.

Where PK Protect Operates

Coverage is the first question, because a protection strategy is limited by the platform it cannot reach. PK Protect discovers and protects sensitive data on endpoints and servers, in SharePoint and OneDrive, across cloud and hybrid cloud environments, and inside databases, data lakes and mainframes.

The mainframe is the one most platforms omit, and it is frequently where the oldest and most regulated records live.

Five Outcomes It Is Built For

Preemptive protection. Secure the data before a breach rather than responding after one, which is the only sequence that changes what an incident costs.

Data retention. Enforce policy to remove outdated or unused sensitive data, reducing both risk and storage cost in the same action.

Continuous compliance. Demonstrate protection to auditors from records produced by normal operation, rather than assembling evidence before each assessment.

Insider and third-party risk. Share data internally and externally while keeping it usable, so that controls do not push people toward unmonitored channels.

Lower environment de-identification. De-identify production data for development and test environments, which is where realistic data and weak controls most often meet.

Why Data-Centric Rather Than Access-Centric

Access controls decide who may open a system. They say nothing about what happens to a file after an authorized person has taken a copy of it.

Embedding protection into the data itself changes what a compromise yields. The file remains protected wherever it travels, which means the control survives the events that defeat perimeter and identity controls: a stolen credential, a misconfigured share, a laptop left somewhere.

Automation Is What Makes It Hold

Policy-driven controls matter because the alternative is asking people to classify and protect their own work correctly, every time, under deadline. That fails predictably, and it fails silently.

Automated discovery, classification and protection remove the judgement call from the moment of highest pressure, and produce a record of what was done as a by-product rather than as a reporting exercise.

Nearly Forty Years of the Same Problem

PKWARE has worked on data protection for close to four decades, which spans the move from tape to disk, from disk to server, from server to cloud, and from cloud to whatever the current architecture is called.

The consistent finding across all of it is that the environment changes faster than the governance around it. Protection attached to the data is the only approach that has survived every one of those transitions without being rebuilt.
